Martha Saldivar Sulaimán, The Matriarch of the World Boxing Council Worldwide and Beloved Mother and Grandmother of the Sulaiman Family, passed away this Sunday, August 18, peacefully, with of her loved ones by her bedside.
Doña Martha, in addition to being the foundation, pillar, strength, shelter, haven and comfort for her family, was the Wife for 42 years of Don José Suliamán. He was the love of her life and she was his everything.
Doña Martha opened the doors of her home to hundreds of boxers, who came looking for the then President of the WBC, but also those who sought, found and appreciated the kindness and simplicity of Doña Martha, who not only cooked and served them, but also gave them advice, pleasant conversations and a genuine affection that crossed borders and spanned the Globe. Her unique hospitality of open doors and accompanying open heart.
Doña Martha was born in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, where she spent a quiet childhood and youth, until she met a young man willing and determined to change the world and leave an indelible mark in his wake. And so they did together, forming a couple that over the years became the pillar of boxing.
Thanks to the understanding, patience, love and unconditional support of Dona Martha for her husband, he was able to dedicate a crucial and significant part of his life and time to boxing, while she played several roles, one of the most important involving raising their six children, since Don José spent a lot of time traveling.
Her role was monumental and fundamental, since she was also her husband’s support in the most difficult moments, his confidant and finest ally, his counselor and also the strong firm voice when she knew something was not right. She carried the Sulaimán family on her shoulders, but also the mantle of the Green and Gold Family.
Although her appearances on camera or in boxing arenas may seem few for the time she has been linked to boxing, she was the woman who has been most involved in this sport, who gave up the privacy of her home and devoted her life, radiance and warmth for anyone and for everyone who needed it.
Doña Martha has now joined Don José, the love of her life for eternity and without a doubt her memory will be everlasting for all those who had the good fortune to know her.
All of us who are part of the World Boxing Council deeply mourn this irreparable loss and send our deepest condolences to the Sulaimán Saldivar family.
Rest in Peace
