The United States Mission to the United Nations (USUN), the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), and the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism invite you to TechCampNYC (www.techcampglobal.org/NYC), being held July 25-26, 2013 at CUNY’s Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism. Participation is free, and the application deadline is July 1.

This July the United States will hold the presidency of the U.N. Security Council and has chosen the theme of protecting journalists in conflict zones. In support of this theme, USUN and the Office of eDiplomacy are organizing a two-day TechCamp workshop to bring together journalists working in conflict zones, the NGOs and other organizations that provide assistance to them, government and UN officials, and technologists. TechCamp is an innovative “unconference” that emphasizes participant-generated content, hands-on learning, and plenty of networking. Through activities like Speed Geeking, Fast-paced Project Presentations, Interactive Training Stations, and Solutions Brainstorming, we will explore issues of verifying sources in conflict areas, anonymous fact-checking and filing mobile applications, and coping with trauma. The goal is to create a community and an interface to share best practices and technologies to protect journalists around the world.
